Implementing AI in Software Testing
Ohio TechCred Approved Credential: Implementing AI in Software Testing
Description
Implementing AI in Software Testing Overview
AI is changing the way software testing gets done, from generating test cases and identifying defects to automating repetitive tasks and improving test coverage. This hands-on course focuses on putting modern AI to work in enterprise software testing environments, helping QA professionals, manual testers, and test engineers build practical skills they can apply immediately.
Students will work with generative AI, AI coding assistants, and explore agentic workflows to create structured test datasets, develop and refine automated tests, troubleshoot failures, and streamline testing processes. Using tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Python testing frameworks, and GitHub Actions, students gain hands-on experience integrating AI into software testing and CI/CD workflows.
Throughout the course, students will learn to evaluate AI-generated results, recognize limitations and potential risks, and apply validation, privacy, and security practices. Guided scripts, templates, and a preconfigured lab environment support students with different technical backgrounds while keeping the focus on practical efficiency and software quality.
Course Objectives
- Generate structured synthetic test data, edge cases, and boundary inputs using generative AI and Python tools.
- Create and refine unit and API tests, and explore UI and functional test generation using AI coding assistants.
- Apply AI to risk-based test selection, change-impact analysis, and coverage gap identification.
- Validate AI-generated tests against requirements to identify inaccurate assertions and incomplete coverage.
- Identify flaky tests, troubleshoot failures, and assess AI-assisted debugging recommendations.
- Explore agentic coding workflows for multistep test generation, refactoring, and validation.
- Integrate AI-assisted tests into GitHub Actions workflows while applying security and quality controls.
Audience
QA professionals, manual testers transitioning to AI-assisted workflows, software testers, test automation engineers, SDETs, validation teams, and developers seeking to incorporate AI into software testing.
Prerequisites
Participants should understand basic software testing concepts, be comfortable reviewing test cases, and have familiarity with functional testing practices. No prior AI experience is required. Basic programming familiarity is recommended for coding and automation activities. Starter scripts, templates, and a preconfigured lab environment are provided.
